The railway held a very successful special event for the 40's Weekend over July 2nd and 3rd 2016. There were no Military Goods Trains this year - which meant that a regular 45 minute interval passenger train service was maintained, and music at Totnes was provided through a speaker system, interspersed with sounding the all clear and brief excerpts of speeches from Winston Churchill throughout both days. The event was held in conjunction with the Devon Area Military Vehicle Trust. The weather on both days was kind, and the number of passengers paying good money at Totnes appeared to be up on the 2015 level.
The 2017 South Devon Railway 1940's Festival event takes place on 1st and 2nd July.
